Have a look at some of the beautiful animals that have come through our shelter doors & touched our lives....
Pictures will be updated periodically, please keep coming back to view more of these precious souls.
We adopted Grey 6 years ago and have never felt the kind of love for an animal as we felt for him.
Grey left us last week and crossed the rainbow bridge. We are beyond devastated but working through our grief.
I just wanted to reach out to Happy Valley Goose Bay SPCA and let you know how grateful we are to have had these years with our boy. Thank you so very much for all the wonderful work you do for these animals.

For those thinking about adopting but are unsure, take a chance. We did with Indie. She was a timid, shy dog when she was taken in by the social workers in Natuashish. She was so malnourished and seeking comfort. She was just plain pitiful. When I first saw the pictures of her and was told her story, I was a little apprehensive despite having been an avid dog lover (and owner). I took the chance and have been rewarded 10x’s over. She is the most affectionate dog I’ve ever had; she knows she’s been rescued. We’ve all
been blessed. Isn’t she just beautiful. ❤️

Happy Birthday/ gotcha day to my boy Stewie!! Stewie spent the first year of his life as a stray dog in Natuashish and thanks to Melanie Mary he was brought to the SPCA. Lee Hill and her crew did an amazing job (taught him good manners)! He came to our house three years ago and I have never regretted it (except when he rolls in mud- just kidding)! He is the sweetest boy you can hope for, he is always by my side, personal trainer, funny, Love to swim and most important loyal! I love my Little Stewart-Stewie!
Thank you HVGB SPCA, Lee Hill, Kimberley Slaney and all the volunteers to allow us to be rescued by our rescue dog

Somehow it’ll be this little baby boy‘s 4th birthday this week! So grateful for him every day. He’s extra loved and extra happy because he gained a couple of doggy siblings this year. Thanks to you all forever for helping me adopt this little chicken nugget (Toby- was Kent before he made his big flight to town lol)
Hi, this is Trigger Patten, back to give all my Happy Valley friends an update on what has been going on in my life since my last posting. I have a little brother now, named Ryker, who came from Port au Port. My Dad told me that I have to teach him how to be a good dog.....just like me. I tried my best but it’s not easy as he is young and very headstrong. What makes it even more difficult is that I now have diabetes and have gone blind. Sometimes Ryker takes care of me, especially when I get disoriented, he guides me back to my house. I cannot do all the exciting things that I once did with my Dad but I do love going for long walks with my Nan and Grand Dad. We still go to the cabin and other places that I am familiar with as I can then remember how to get around, otherwise I bump into things a lot . I can even go swimming if someone is with me. My Vet has also told me that I have a thyroid condition that has changed my previous black coat into a light one. Life has given me a few challenges but I am still very grateful to the HVSPCA and my Dad for giving me an opportunity for such a good life. Bye for now, we’ll see what the next chapter brings.

Happy first "Gotcha" day to Sam (on the left, previously Bam-Bam) and his brother Chase (on the couch, previously Diesel) It's Sammy's "Gotcha" day- Chase is later- but how can you celebrate only one!
Thanks to the HVGB SPCA for these two special boys. They're the best of friends who have become inseparable. Their hobbies include digging under the deck while one stands guard to make sure mom doesn't see and howling with dad for fun (Chase is working on his howl, it's more of a scream right now).
We love them the very most!!

Miss Bumblebee is in the final process of adoption to become a part of our pack. We wanted to do a trial at first as we wanted to make sure they both got along well and that our home was right for her. They love each other and it makes my heart so full. It’s like Bumble was always suppose to be here.
Thank you to Lee Hill and the rest of the staff at HVGB SPCA. You’ve given us 2 angels. Cannot imagine our lives without them.

Jamie and I (from Great North Data) adopted Tuxie (now Winter) last May. She is all grown up now and is such a silly and loving girl. We are so happy that we got her! She loves hiking and playing with her siblings, two little King Charles Spaniels. Here are some of my favourite pictures of her. She is a very photogenic girl and attracts lots of attention when we go for walks in St John's. Everyone wants to meet her.

I'd like to tell you all why I started these gatherings with our beautiful dogs from Labrador.
Last August, I adopted my beautiful Lily from Lee Hill.At the age of eight, Lily had roamed the Natuashish area her whole life and was basically the community dog! She would go to the teacher's quarters and they would feed her and took her in on cold nights (after she lost her tail which froze off). She was named Lily by one of those teachers (Jaclyn Sena).
Then she'd walk over to the other side of town to visit the social worker and lie down and go to sleep on her office floor. It was one of these social workers (Stephanie Kendall) who flew Lily out to Lee Hill in Goose Bay - where she had her first bath! She spent 10 days there (Lee was tempted to keep her for herself!!) .... but when I saw Lily's photo, it felt like I KNEW her....and that she would be mine.
She was flown to St. John's - Kim Baker Slaney met me at the airport and in my very first hour with Lily, I knew I could take her with me THAT NIGHT to visit my mother at The Miller Centre - she was SO gentle and quiet and beautiful!
SO, I wanted to do something for Lily - give her something familiar since she was no longer in her native land, so I began to seek out others who had adopted dogs from Natuashish, thinking to reunite Lily with some of her old pals she may have hung around with! Thus our first meeting last September! - there were just three of us, but it was wonderful! ...and then it grew.......and now, I am so happy to have so many of you coming out with your beautiful dogs from HVGB SPCA - and I love that folks with dogs from other areas of Labrador are joining us now too! Wonderful!
(Oh, by the way - I've given her a second name - to honour her culture...."Shining Star".....and that's what she IS.)

This pretty much sums up the relationship Katara and I have!!! #hvgbspca @lee.hill.104 @kelseywatkins96 I couldn't have had Katara in my life if it weren't for the very special people at Happy Valley Goose Bay SPCA in Labrador. They were super patient with my indecisiveness and loaded questions surrounding adopting a dog I never met. They assured me she was gentle, good with other dogs, and good with kids. They weren't sure about leash walking or if she would run off leash, but I took a chance on her anyway! After hearing about all the wonderful dogs that come from HVGB SPCA, I decided to go for it! They were 100 percent correct in her gentleness and temperament, I could not ask for a better dog!! But the surprising fact was, she is a super loyal dog, she doesn't run away off leash, and she is excellent when being walked. She has only improved all these skills since she came to live with us. She now cuddles on the bed, adores my two little girls who both adore her!! We did have to work on some things, but this is a natural process of adopting a dog, you have to make time for the adjustment and they have to adjust as well. So for anyone adopting, please give them time, dont give up on them too quickly. You will have a wonderful loyal companion by your side, just like we have with Katara!! The best part is, she loves adventures just as much as I do!! 💕
Lots of love for HVGB SPCA, they take wonderful care of all the animals in their care!!

It’s been a few months since Willis lost his best friend Captain and came to a strange new home. I’m sure it was a very traumatic time for him.
I’m happy to report that he has finally grown comfortable in his furever home and has become the king of the castle. He’s fascinated with plants, doesn’t care much for people food (except tuna) and absolutely loves to cuddle with his mom. It took a lot of time and patience, but I’m pretty sure the constant purring means he’s happy. He’s also known as Mr. Willis or Mister Mister. He looks like he should be wearing a top hat and monocle. ENZO; our miracle boy
IN MEMORY of a very sweet, special puppers Enzo (aka Skip) ….we were also the lucky ones to have had the pleasure of knowing, caring, and loving you. Back in late January 2006 a puppy was found in a dumpster and brought to the shelter. In the box we saw a very small, frightened little face looking up as us. Taking him out we realized he was in bad shape! Extremely skinny, beaten, had burns on his little body, could hardly stand due to the damage on his hind legs and some on the front. Taken to the vet and with that little face looking at us we decided to give him at least a few days to see if he had the strength and will to survive. HE DID… took him a few weeks to be able to walk without falling down. Then in around March this wonderful lady that lived in Nova Scotia decided to take Skip on with all his medical issues and give him a loving home. So off Skip went…got a new home, new name Enzo and more love than one can image. Christa worked with him everyday massaging and adjusting his left hip and legs and by July he was running like the wind and could then jump over 1.5 feet high with no problem. He was our miracle puppy that just kept getting better…..
Sharing this email from Enzo’s Mom just shows how much he was loved and will be missed!!
Back in 2006, I adopted a puppy by the name of Skip. I called him Enzo Bananas Ferrari. :) (Because he liked bananas and I wanted him to be able to run fast.) We moved to New Brunswick 3 years ago when we bought a 22.5 acre farm. Well, he ran across our property, to the neighbours property and that is how we got to meet everyone. He enjoyed the company of their horses and ours, other dogs and sheep! Every chance, he got he ran!! Chasing the deer and foxes... even killing a few ground hogs and a squirrel. Some of that Labrador wild never did leave him. :) In 2011, he was there to welcome our new baby boy home and loved him dearly.
It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you that Enzo passed away on Oct. 30th. :( He was not sick for long. He developed fluid around his heart and suffered very little. It is those left behind that suffer now. Know that everyone loved him very much and I thank the SPCA for allowing him to become my guardian. He never left my side. Thanks for everything that you do. My life is better because Enzo was in it. Take care and thanks,
Christa Veinotte, RMT
